A maintained ESPHome firmware for the FutureProofHomes Satellite1, built around Sendspin — ESPHome's native multi-room audio sync — with close upstream ESPHome tracking and ongoing power-management and hardware-driver fixes.
The default firmware plus encrypted credential storage and signed updates. Permanent changes — read first.
Install HardenedSendspin is ESPHome's native protocol for synchronized multi-room audio, built into ESPHome core since 2026.6.0. Multiple Satellite1 units play audio in perfect sync throughout your home, with no external sync server to run or maintain.
The hardened build is the default firmware with two additions: your Wi-Fi password and Home Assistant API key are stored encrypted, using a key held inside the chip rather than in flash, and firmware updates must carry a valid signature from this project before the device will install them. Nothing is removed — voice assistant, Sendspin audio, provisioning and the beta channel all work as usual.
In exchange, some of it is permanent: the device burns a unique encryption key into one-time-programmable memory on first boot, and switching to or from this build wipes saved settings once, so the device needs re-provisioning. Going back to a standard build also needs a USB cable — a hardened device refuses the unsigned standard releases, so it cannot be undone over the air. If you build your own firmware you will want the standard variant, or your own signing key. The install page spells all of this out — please read it before flashing.
This fork tracks upstream ESPHome releases closely (currently 2026.8.0), with fixes for DAC power management, LED/timer logic, and the FUSB302B USB-PD driver landing as they're found. It's not a fork in maintenance limbo: releases are versioned, linted, and built from CI on every change.
Both this fork and the official FutureProofHomes firmware target the same hardware and now both build on Sendspin — pick whichever release cadence and maintenance style fits your setup.
A long-term goal here is upstreaming the Satellite1 hardware drivers into ESPHome core so any ESPHome user can use them directly. The PCM5122 DAC driver is already merged upstream; the TAS2780 amplifier driver is in progress.
The device is erased during first install. Right after flashing, the installer asks for your home Wi-Fi credentials in the browser, so no CLI or config file is needed. Devices already on the network can also be re-provisioned over Bluetooth from Home Assistant.
